Small Changes, Big Results- Atomic Habits

habits

I started to read Atomic Habits by James Clear last week. Out of the book’s usual information, which could be cited anywhere on the internet, just two ideas blew my mind.

  1. Habits’ compound results
  2. Winners do it even if it’s boring
  1. Habits’ compound results

I’ve tried to improve my life for a long time and sure I’ve made some improvements. But this is certainly not the place I’d hoped to be after all my hard work and experiments on many hacks to become successful. In fact, back in college, I’d even lost cash in scams when I tried various methods to make money online. Precisely, I was a jack of all trades but a master of none because I never understood the power of Time and Effort.

A habit in itself cannot give you great results. I’m sure writers are aware of the concept ‘small incremental habits could somehow yield great results.’ Just a page for 365 days would help in completing a novel. Similarly, habits of saving, learning, exercising always compound, though nothing much in the beginning but will certainly be helpful in the future. To illustrate this money would be perfect.

Say, for instance, you’ve been saving up 10% of your income regularly. This might be a trivial saving, but what happens in 10 years of compound interest is exceptional. It will almost increase twofold. However, the time between the start and the end of the result might feel dragging and you’ll feel like nothing is happening in your life. The want of immediate results, which never happens, fragile our motivation. Remember, anything worthwhile takes time. So, it is imperative that one waits until it becomes habit.

2.Winners Do It Even If It’s Boring

The funny thing about habits is that once a person reaches a particular goal they forsake their routine. If that’s the case, then once again they will lose all the momentum and have to start from the roots. For example, if a person loses weight after a year of constant effort and jumps back to his/her old routine pattern then they’re in trouble. They would’ve washed away all the effort. The difference between amateurs and professionals is simply that the latter shows up in spite of achieving their goals.
